Stampede on Main Street!

The Calgary Stampede Trail Ride hit Hussar on Wednesday, June 29th. The second leg of the 206 km ride arrived at Hussar at about 6:30 pm with over 100 horses and nearly 40 riders. It was a sight to see and many came out to see the event. This was followed by a steak, hamburger and hot dog barbecue in the arena. Everyone had a great time, especially when the live band started playing and the dancing boots came out.

Thank you to all the organizers for a job well done.

Sunshine for the Bulls

Luck is on our side. The second day of the 29th Annual Summer Daze Rodeo was warm and sunny. The bleachers and the beer gardens were full of happy spectators.

The bull riding was spectacular despite the bulls winning most of the time in the first round and every time but once in the second round. Justin Volz's score of 88 on his final ride was enough to guarantee him first place.

The other events of the day were sheep riding and bull fighting. The kids in the sheep riding showed a lot of bravery and plenty of grit as they held on for all they were worth aboard some very lively sheep.

The bull fighting was a sight to see as the competitors ducked and dove away from some very rank bulls. One man even had the bull and a barrel go right over him but managed to be untouched. Hats off to these brave men for putting on quite a show. Most of us learned that it was possible for us to hold our breath for the 70 seconds these bull fighters were up against the bulls.

The weekend was a great success and all who attended had a great time. The organizers would like to send a huge thanks to all who came out for the show and all the volunteers. The whole community would like to thank the Lions club and all others who dedicated their time this weekend for putting on another enjoyable weekend despite the challenges that the weather brought us.

First Day of Hussar Daze Sloppy

Everyone awoke on Saturday to a sloppy wet morning. Unfortunately the events on Saturday had to be canceled but that didn't stop the slowpitch tournament from continuing. There was a lot of slipping and sliding and trying to catch the ball was reminiscent of a greased pig contest but everyone had a lot of fun and the spectators got a few chuckles as well.

Everyone is hoping for a drier Sunday for the continuation of the ball tournament and the PCB Bull Riding and Bull Fighting. Come on and check it out. It looks like it's going to be a sunny day.

Duck Lake Days a Hit

Duck Lake days was held on June 11 and 12th. Everyone was a little concerned about the weather but after the cold wind on Friday night the sun came out Saturday and it turned out to be a nice day. The storm rolled in on Saturday night but it couldn't dampen everyone's spirits. Candles even came out to keep the party going after the power went out.

The six ball teams battled it out with Jason Gauthier's team winning in the final game against Cole Kaiser's team. The organizers would like to thank everyone for coming and everyone thanks the organizers for once again doing a fine job. The barbecue was great and the steak and corn on the cob for supper were delicious.

If you attended this year, you know how much fun it is and if you didn't then you don't know what you're missing.
